Last unexplored territory

Utah is half the size of France. It has 2,5 million inhabitants, France has 70 million. And the UK has about the same population as France, but with half the surface. No need to describe the feeling of immensity riding here. 

This territory was explored only in 1872 by Major Powell. So, the last part of the US to be mapped,  long after Lewis and Clark explored the passage to the West ( 1803/5) and after the whole country was settled by homesteaders. The Mormons where given Utah by the US government because it was so dry and arid. They managed to irrigate it and make  it partly fertile. No need to say that their religion and philosophy is based on work ethics, frugality and prayer…
