Ste Affrique Sunday May 5th
It is incredibly green but it isn’t Normandy. It is amazingly unpopulated but it is not Montana. It is painfully hilly but it is not the Alps.It is stunningly pristine, but it is polluted by farming pesticides. It is Aveyron, a department in the South of France, where the Lafayette riders decided to spend a week riding leisurely at the pace of 100 Kms a day, enjoying the small curvy roads, the historic villages with their castles and churches and medieval streets. What a fantastic area for biking! Don’ t miss it whether you enjoy road bike or mountain bike. Life in this remote area of southern France seems to have been the same for ever. Every 20 miles a medieval castle or a roman church reeks eternity and reminds us that dozens of generations walked these streets before us. Humbling . But isn’t humility and spirituality part of biking? On the road perched on our saddle, we feel so weak and strong at the same time! And when the landscape around you is as pristine as Aveyron, the fit is perfect.
